The 92.1 cell line originates from a primary uveal melanoma found in the right orbit of a 76-year-old female. When observed under light microscopy, the cultured cells display marked pleomorphism with prominent nucleoli, and they possess an in vitro doubling time of around 58 hours. Cytogenetic analysis has uncovered numerical abnormalities in chromosome 8 and structural abnormalities in chromosome 6. Notably, the 92.1 cell line exhibits the presence of the melanoma-associated antigen gp100, along with various other melanoma markers, such as Melan-A/MART-1, tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein-1, dopachrome tautomerase, and MCSP-1.
