These cells underwent transformation through infection with the NTKmT retrovirus vector, leading to the expression of polyomavirus middle T antigen. Their endothelial identity has been confirmed through the presence of von Willebrand factor expression and the uptake of fluorescently labeled low-density lipoprotein (LDL). These cells exhibit positivity for various endothelial-specific proteins such as PECAM-1, Endoglin, MECA-32, and Flk-1, as confirmed by FACS analysis. When exposed to inflammatory cytokines, bEnd.3 cells upregulate the expression of proteins such as ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and E-selectin.
