COS-7 cells, derived from the CV-1 African green monkey fibroblast cell line, are a commonly used type of COS cell line. Established in 1981 by Professor Yakov Gluzman, they were created through the transformation of CV-1 cells using a mutant strain of Simian Virus 40 (SV40) that encodes the wild-type T-antigen. These cells closely resemble human fibroblast cells and are often referred to as COS-7 monkey fibroblast or COS-7 fibroblast-like cells. In culture, COS-7 cells exhibit adherent growth on glass and plastic surfaces, displaying a fibroblast-like morphology. Due to the transformation process, COS-7 cells express SV40 T-antigen and remain susceptible to SV40, allowing lytic growth within the kidney cells.- ONLINE INQUIRY
