FRTL-5 is a stable thyroid cell line derived from the thyroid gland of the Fischer rat. These cells are known for their ability to maintain highly differentiated thyroid characteristics, such as thyroglobulin secretion and iodide concentration. Even in continuous culture, FRTL-5 cells remain differentiated and non-tumorigenic. They exhibit complex three-dimensional growth patterns rather than forming a typical monolayer.
