Human Intestinal Myofibroblasts (H-InMyoFib) are isolated from whole adult human intestines. HIMFs share the same phenotypic characteristics as fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells but don’t express smooth muscle markers. They play a critical role in intestinal growth and development, repair, tumorigenesis, water and electrolyte transport, inflammation, and fibrosis etc.
Through interactions with an elaborate network of cytokines, growth factors, and other inflammatory mediators, The intestine myofibroblasts respond to inflammatory signals, which implicate in the chronic inflammatory pathogenic conditions such as Crohn’s disease.
