NEC8 is a human testicular embryonal carcinoma cell line derived from a surgical specimen. These cells exhibit a distinctive growth pattern, forming tightly packed, flat epithelial colonies with polygonal cells that gradually accumulate at the colony’s center. Under ultrastructure examination, NEC8 cells display prominent desmosomes and microvilli at the cell membrane. Notably, the cytoplasm of NEC8 cells is characterized by a high abundance of glycogen granules, leading to a strong PAS reaction. In vitro, NEC8 cells consist primarily of embryonal carcinoma cells with the potential for trophoblastic differentiation.
